In 2013 the Alma Laser company introduced FemiLift to help reduce vaginal laxity and improve sexual functioning for women. The vagina can lose collagen or tightness due to childbirth, aging or gravity. These changes can be reduced by the use of a special laser that is calibrated to work on vaginal tissues. By delivering the right amount of laser energy the collagen in vaginal tissues is increased as well as it’s blood flow. This creates a greater feeling of tightness as well as an increase in vaginal lubrication. It has recently been featured on The Doctors.click to view episode
What’s even more exciting is that it can reduce or cure the loss of urine from mild to moderate Urinary Stress Incontinence. This is the loss of urine when you cough, sneeze or exercise. This is caused by lack of support to the urethra. Studies have shown that FemiLift can help improve that laxity and reduce or cure the loss of urine with these activities. No more mini-pad every day!
FemiLift delivers laser energy to the vagina in a 5-10 minute procedure. No anesthesia or pain medications are needed. The procedure is virtually painless. There can be a sense of warmth during the procedure but otherwise easy enough to be done during a lunch hour and go back to work! There will be a little discharge as the vagina is recovering.Avoidance of intercourse for 4-5 days is recommended.
1-3 treatments each 4 weeks apart may be required to get the results you are looking for. A “touch up” may be needed 1-2 years later, however. If you plan to get pregnant in the near future you should wait to do FemiLift until after delivery to get the best results.
The FemiLift procedure is not for everyone. If you have severe pelvic laxity FemiLift will not be enough. Those patients achieve better benefits from surgery to lift the bladder and vagina and tighten it’s opening. These are done at the Paul Larson Clinic as well. In most cases these are considered medically necessary and covered by your medical insurance.
Why consider the FemiLift procedure? If you feel that the walls of the vagina have become lax and sexual satisfaction is not what it used to be, FemiLift will help to improve that. If you have decreased vaginal lubrication from menopause, FemiLift can help. If you have loss of urine from Urinary Stress Incontinence and Kegel exercises haven’t helped, then FemiLift is a great option. We still offer the MiniArc sling, using local anesthesia for these patients, however, if you want to avoid surgery or vaginal mesh, FemiLift can give you another option.
FemiLift is not the cure all for everyone but if you are looking for better sex, less urine loss and increased vaginal lubrication then this new procedure may be the answer for you.
A consultation is necessary beforehand so we can make sure it’s the right procedure for you. An exam is needed to asses your individual situation and recommend the correct treatment options. The procedure is considered cosmetic and not covered by insurance at this time. Call to schedule and appointment and explore this exciting new option for women.
